Man of the match Štěch: “I might make it in the Premier League”

26.8.2010

Twenty year-old Czech goalkeeper Marek Štěch from London’s West Ham United made his first team competition debut in the Hammers’ uniform in the Carling Cup victory over Oxford and was named the man of the match, as he did splendidly. The Czech Under-21 national team’s member believes that he might take his chance in the Premier League as he said in his interview for Premiership.cz.

You have made your competition debut in West Ham, so let me start by asking you about your still fresh impressions and feelings.

As I came to West Ham when I was 16, I’ve been waiting for this chance for four years. There was training on Monday and the manager told me he wanted to give me this chance, for I’d played well in the preparation and got a chance in many games. He said he’d like to test me and see what would happen, so I’m really happy that he gave me the chance. It felt incredible, it was a marvellous experience, and I’d certainly love to repeat it.

The manager preferred you to the experienced Robert Green and, after the match, said that he would like to continue engaging younger players. Do you feel you might get a chance in the Premier League, too?

Definitely, if I carry on working as hard as I do now and try my best, there could be a chance. Mr. Grant is a very good coach and I think I might make it in the Premier League.
